Henry Sugar is a wine bar and restaurant located in leafy Carlton North, only a stones throw from Melbourne CBD, and offers a range of function packages and options to suit your needs and make your next event memorable. We have a cosy restaurant interior, buzzing bar area, and a sunny decked parklet to suit all variety of groups and sizes.

We offer both set menu and canape options, plus our bar team can put together a bespoke drinks package to get the evening kicked off, or simply put a tab on the bar and you’re ready to go.

We have a strong love for Australian produce and native ingredients, both of which drive our hyper-seasonal menus and beverage programs.

Our staff are warm and welcoming and work hard to take your experience to the next level.

The service from Dan and the crew at Henry Sugar was just superb. Without over doing it, they were always there to casually suggest the perfect glass of wine to match your palate and the delicious food they just brought out. And the food! Mike and co work wonders putting together the varied and oh-so-tasty seasonal menu. The whole experience enhanced the magic of our small and intimate wedding day. We cannot recommend highly enough!

VENUE & CAPACITY

Our beautiful and cosy space offers multiple areas for your next event, whether it be a long table dinner in the restaurant or on the sunny deck, or a decadent cocktail party with roaming canapes, dine in intimacy in our moody private dining room, or get raucus in the bar.

Seated Dining

  • Private Dining Room - up to 12 guests

  • Main banquet seating in restaurant - up to 30 guests, or 38 including the booth

  • Footpath Outdoor Seating (undercover) - up to 32 guests

  • Al Frescho Deck (weather exposed, great when sun is shining) - 25 guests across 5 tables

  • Private chef hosted dinners for up to 20 guests seated, or 40 guests standing canape style, in our upstairs space - Henry Home, with the option for up to 6 guests to stay in the space overnight for no extra charge. Packages can be viewed here.

Cocktail Functions

  • Up to 90 guests for the whole venue

  • 20 guest in the bar area

  • 40 on the alfresco deck (weather dependant)

Minimum Spends

Private venue bookings are subject to the following minimum spends, we do not charge a venue hire fee.

Private Dining Room - no minimum, set menu only, 10% service charge

Evenings
Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday - $6,000
Monday $8000
Friday & Saturday - $10,000

Lunches
Saturday $3000, Sunday $5000

Cocktail Canape Functions

For cocktail canape functions we offer two options, all canapes are made fresh in house.

Sit-Down Dinners

For large groups doing a sit-down dinner we again offer two delicious options - showcasing the best of the season, our chef’s menu $85pp, or for an extra decadent affair, with extra dishes and courses throughout, our deluxe chefs menu $110pp.

Drinks Packages

Henry sugar provides multiple beverage options to tailor to your event’s needs.

Wine & beer package - $75 per head for 3 hours

This includes: a carefully selected range of wines from our favourite local producers, a range of craft beers on tap, & amazing, house made non-alcoholic options including our house brewed sodas. We will work with you to select wines to suit your tastes.

  • Add an aperitif cocktail on arrival to get the event rolling +$15pp

  • Add an extra hour +$25pp

  • Add basic spirits to the drink options +$40pp (3 hours)

Full cocktail package - $120 per head for 3 hours

This includes: a selection of up to 5 cocktails plus everything included in the basic drinks package.

If you’d like to go with a tab, or on consumption, chat with our team and we’ll put together a focused and delicious drinks list suitable for your guests, our skilled bartenders can tend to anything you dream up.

PRIVATE DINING ROOM

Our private dining room is the perfect space for intimate dinners for parties of 6-12 guests, dining on our chefs menu.

It’s beautiful, moody and cosy, and is available at all times we are open, no booking fee but a 10% service charge applies.
